Comics

For the last three months I have been getting back into comics. I really haven't been into comics since I went to college about 10 years ago. I've gone occasionally to comic shops both here in Connecticut and in Rochester,NY.
I usually visit two comic book shops which are near me. I guess I'm lucky that there are two only about 15 to 20 minutes away. The shops are in East Hartford, CT and Manchester,CT. The shops are Buried Under Comics in Manchester and The Bookie in East Hartford.
Both comic book shops have ample comics. If I'm looking for back issues, then Buried Under Comics is the best option. Buried Under Comics has extensive back issues. The Bookie does have some back issues but they are mostly incomplete.
Hal is the proprietor of The Bookie. He is a nice older guy. He is more than willing to order anything for you. Buried Under Comics has an extensive crew. Brian, the proprietor, I've known since high school. His other employees include Scott, Marc, Luke and probably others. I've tried to do orders through them and they have never gotten back to me.

So now that I've been into comics for the last three months what are my impression? First of all, the prices have greatly risen. I remember paying 1.95 back about 10-15 years ago. Now comics are 2.99 to 3.99. I'm not at all pleased since this means I can't buy as many as I used to. Of the comics I have bought the company I have the most liking too is DC comics' VERTIGO line. I'm currently reading Fables, Jack of Fables, House of Mystery, Daytripper, Demo, and Joe the Barbarian. I find these comics are exciting and worth reading. Another comic company that I just recently became aware of and who is producing exciting books is Radical Comics. I really like their 5 dollar comics line.
For major events, there is currently Blackest Night from DC comics and Siege from Marvel comics. I was already late getting into Blackest Night so I decided not to follow. I may decide to buy the TPB in the future. Siege is OK, I guess. This is the first major event I've ever followed. Although all I'm buying is the main Siege comics and not the multiple comic series that are being impacted. It just costs too much money.
So what do I think of the current comics industry? I think that the industry doesn't do enough to attract younger readers. Most of the people who I see going to the comic shop are college age and above. And most of the younger crowd are reading Manga and not American comics. Who knows how long I will follow comics again. There are a few mini/maxi series I want to read for the year 2010(Daytripper, Joe the Barbarian, Demo, Image United, Fables, and a few others). Hopefully the comics industry will keep me interested.

Wassup

So I haven't updated in over a year. There isn't really much to add. There have been personal issues with my family lately but that is private.
